Examining the opioid epidemic through the lens of crime data

Criminal justice data is under-utilized in research despite its high relevance and unique role in the opioid crisis, according to a recent study by Penn State researchers using crime incident data. The study found that opioid-related crime incident rates were positively associated with rates of opioid-related emergency department visits, hospitalizations and overdose mortality.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Equity Pedagogy Network increased its reach to four campuses, nine collaborating centers and units and also hosts 130 faculty with about 100 members involved in one of their working groups. Casually referred to as "the Network," the group aims to improve societal outcomes for all students and faculty via improved teaching and learning on equity, 偏见和多样性.

Impacts of gambling in 宾西法尼亚 to be explored

Penn State researchers are exploring unknown territory when it comes to gambling in the state of 宾西法尼亚. 格伦多, assistant professor of criminal justice at 宾州州立大学阿宾顿分校 and coordinator of the Greater Philadelphia Office of the Criminal Justice Research Center, has been awarded a contract through the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs to assess impacts of interactive, online gaming in 宾西法尼亚.

Professor’s project surveys ‘lived Buddhism’ in Philadelphia

Jivaka.net — the recently-released project of C. 皮尔斯Salguero, associate professor of Asian history and religious studies at 宾州州立大学阿宾顿分校 — is the product of a years-long survey of Buddhist temples and centers located in the Philadelphia area. Much of the research legwork for the site was completed by undergraduate students working with Salguero.
